The SDN Series - Part 1

Unless you have been living under a rock you’ll know that our network is software-defined, from core to edge… That’s all well and good but what does that actually mean, and how can you benefit from it?

We have put together a 5 part series that will explain all! Starting from the current climate, we will then illustrate what SDN actually is, and finally hammer home the benefits; with real life examples.

Part 1. The Current Climate

To know where you’re going you need to know where you’re coming from.

In the first instalment we have highlighted some industry challenges that ‘Software Defined Networking’ has grown out of and will, in one way or another, address.

Against rising expectations, our industry has been held back by its inflexibility. Networking requires highly trained specialists and changes to the network are done manually – which all takes time and patience.

In our founding year (2007) things were very different and we all made hay while the sun shone. Today, there is more competition than ever which is driving down connectivity value. We all need to differentiate in order to stand out from the crowd.

This is where we come in! In 2018 we finished the roll out of our national network covering 75% of UK businesses with 6.8 million premises passed. Our coverage is vast - but that isn’t enough for us. We have made our whole network Software-Defined which will allow you to sidestep all of the pesky industry challenges above.
