City of Angels
Maggie ( Meg Ryan)  is a surgeon coping with the loss of a patient, and her role in life. She has no real beliefs in angels or the hereafter. She is merely existing day to day. Seth is an angel who is watching over Los Angeles. When the two finally meet each other, both worlds are changed forever.

I would rather have had one breath of her hair, one kiss from her mouth, one touch of her hand, than eternity without it.

Seth (Nicolas Cage) from the movie- City Of Angels

This movie has been grilled and panned by critics all over the world as a depressing and morbid tale. I for one take great offense in that. The story of the two star crossed lovers is a tale as old as time, but what makes this one so special is not the twist (agnostic woman falls in love with an angel) it is instead the meaning BEHIND the story. There are many lessons to be learned through this movie, if one will only take the time to stop and think about the plot and the implications in their own lives.

Meg Ryan is superb in the role of Maggie. Ryan just has this ability to draw you into her characters and make you genuinely understand them and care about them regardless of what your background is. The character of Maggie is simply a scared little girl hiding inside a confident, brash woman's body and Ryan pulls this off magnificently.

Ryan is joined by Nicolas Cage who plays Seth, the love interest/angel. Normally I am not a Cage fan, but I must say that he fits the role of the lost angel extremely well. You can nearly see and feel the pain and confusion in his eyes in every scene.

Dennis Franz also has a supporting role in this film as a fallen angel named Messinger. Though typically a "tough guy cop" role is this actors forte, he pulls off the kind, sensitive character of Messinger admirably. In fact, Franz even delivers much of the comic relief for this film with equal style.

This is one movie that is to be watched with the person you love.
