How much Web space do I get with my account?

  • A Personal Account is allowed up to 2MB of space.

  • A Business Account is allowed up to 5MB of space.

  • Virtual Web Hosting Lite is allowed up to 10MB of space.

  • Virtual Web Hosting Full is allowed up to 50MB of space.

How do I sign up for Web space?

  • Call our office at (803) 416-8500 or toll free at (877) 228-4788 to setup either the Virtual Web Hosting Lite or Full package.

What will my domain name or home page URL be and can I change it?

  • Your domain name will be http://www.virtual1.net/~<username>

Are there any traffic limits?

  • Yes. Please consult our "Rates" page for those details.

Is there any limit on the number of files contained within my personal directory?

  • There are no limits on the number of files contained within your personal directory except that they may not exceed the maximum amount of space granted for your account.

Are any subdirectories allowed? If so, is there a limit on the number of subdirectories?

  • Subdirectories are allowed and there are no limits other than disk space.

Can I connect to the Web space server through telnet?

  • There is no telnet access; only FTP can be used.

What format should I use for images and graphics on my Website?

  • To save space and avoid browser incompatibility issues, save your images in GIF or JPEG format.

Can I create and use custom CGI scripts?

  • You cannot create or use CGI scripts in our Web space environment if you have a PPP or Business account. Virtual Web Hosting packages are allow custom scripts.

Does the service support Microsoft FrontPage extensions?

  • Customers may use Microsoft FrontPage as long as they don't use the extensions.

Can I use RealAudio files on my site?

  • Real Audio files are not supported.

Where can I find information and tools on Web publishing topics such as HTML or Web design?

  • Search the Web! There are a multitude of different packages to choose from.

I cannot access the web server with my user ID. What's wrong?

  • You will not be able to access the server if your password or account is revoked. To reset your password, you need to call or office.

What happens to my website when I cancel my account?

  • Your website will be removed from the Internet once you cancel your account.

  • For additional information and technical support, contact your software manufacturer.

How do I clean up the files in my Website directory?

  • If you want to delete the contents of your website, use an FTP client application such as WS_FTP Pro to delete files from your website directory.

How do I preview my site before moving my files to the server?

  • You can preview your Web pages through your browser. To do so, save your Web page and depending on what browser you are using, choose File --> Open Page. Then, select the Browse option to find the file you want to view.

I finished creating my Web pages. How do I publish them to the Web server?

  • You will need to use an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) application (client) such as WS_FTP Pro or other supported web publishing packages to transfer your information to our web space server.

Do I have to be connected to Virtual1.net in order to FTP?

  • No.

After I upload, I can't see the changes on my browser. What do I do?

  • If you cannot see the updates on your browser, it is likely that the browser is reading the cache (the cache is used to keep local copies of frequently accessed documents). Try clearing your browser's cache and reloading the page to view the latest changes to your web document.

What happens if I exceed my 10 MB of disk space?

  • If you exceed the 10 MB of disk space, you will not be able to upload your files  to the web space server. To free up disk space, you can remove some files from your website directory using an FTP client application such as WS_FTP Pro.
